Coming into Tuesday night’s game against the Chicago Fire, the Dynamo defense has had its issues. The defense showed up big against the Fire, recording its first shutout since May 15th against Portland. The offense on the other hand still has many question marks surrounding it. After scoring twice on Saturday against Philadelphia, the Dynamo were unable to find the net against Chicago as they continue to learn and grow into the new 4-3-3 formation.
Mac Kandji and Will Bruin had the best chances for Houston in the first half. Kandji shot wide in the 8th minute and Bruin headed over a cross from Corey Ashe in first half stoppage time. The second half moved at a much slower pace as both teams seemed to be done in by the warm weather, humidity, and fatigue.
Defender Geoff Cameron missed the match with what was announced as a hamstring injury. With Cameron reportedly close to completing a deal that would send him overseas, you’ve got to wonder just how injured Cameron was. There are rumors of Cameron moving to English Premier League side Stoke City but the Dynamo have denied that any offers have been made.
With the result on the pitch being a drab nil-nil draw, the headline of the night was the Dynamo’s annual military appreciation night. Led by midfielder Brad Davis’ “Brad’s Brigade” initiative, the Dynamo hosted many military personnel and their families. The night was capped off with the first ever fireworks show at BBVA Compass Stadium.
The Dynamo now travel to LiveStrong Sporting Park on Saturday to take on Sporting Kansas City. The last visit to LSP will bring back happy memories for the Dynamo as it was the site of their Eastern Conference Championship win. Cameron’s availability will be huge in stopping a vaunted SKC attack. For now the Dynamo will feel they are in a decent position halfway through the season. They currently sit in a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference but with teams right on their heels they will need to improve over the second half of the season.
