2012 has been a memorable year in the world of football, especially in Major League Soccer. During these last five days of the year we will be counting down the top five games of the year. Today we bring you the number 4 game, where Major League Soccer opened it's first downtown stadium in memorable fashion.
#4 – Houston Dynamo 1-0 DC United – May 12
The Houston Dynamo opened their 2012 season with 7 straight road games. When they returned on May 12 to open BBVA Compass Stadium they did it in grand fashion. The new downtown stadium was loud and full of orange. Dynamo fans had waited for this day for years, for their team to have their stadium.
In what would end up being a preview of the Eastern Conference Final, the Dynamo hosted DC United in BBVA Compass Stadium's curtain raiser. The game would be decided by one goal and fittingly it was provided by Houston captain Brad Davis in a moment of brilliance. Davis' curling effort from 25 yards out in the 67th minute offiicially opened the stadium and sent Houston soccer fans into delirium.
This game was not only a great match but was a big moment for the league going forward. You can see highlights of this match below.
