FANTASY MLS FOR XI: DON’T PANIC!

Week 1 of Fantasy MLS is in the books, and managers are understandably starting to seriously question their rosters. Not many would have predicted nine clean sheets and a brace from Jozy Altidore at BC Place. Worry not, fellow managers! I am here to ease your pains and provide a voice of reason in these trying times… so let’s get right on to the week’s questions:

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS Altidore or Kaka for captain?

— Anthony Jennings (@soccer_engineer) March 10, 2015

Between these two, I’d have to pick Kaká. Houston did well to get a clean sheet, but Tyler Deric bailed out the back line on multiple occasions. I think both teams are going to get a goal in that game, and Kaká is going to be involved in Orlando’s.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS is it worth it selling someone when theyre just starting out of form or do you wait a bit to see if they recover?

— Josh Davis (@JoshWDavis) March 10, 2015

One week’s not enough time to judge a player’s form, so as long as they still have a decent matchup, I’d stick with your guns.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS what high scorers from week 1 to avoid going forward

—  Cody Weber (@Codydejavu) March 10, 2015

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that the following teams will have byes in the next two weeks, where their teams will not play at all for the round. A lot of these guys scored big:

Round 2: COL, DC, MTL, RBNY
Round 3: CLB, RSL, SEA, TOR

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS Shea and Zardes, should I keep them around? For the money I can probably get someone more consistent.

— Freddy (@armejia6) March 10, 2015

Both looked dangerous last week, but if you wanted to replace them, a good swap would be for Robbie Keane plus Ethan White, if you have the extra cash. If you don’t, Jack Jewsbury is a good short-term option.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS is captaining Chad Marshall a crazy idea?

— Ben Ferree (@ben_ferree) March 10, 2015

Crazy? No. I like Seattle’s chances of getting a clean sheet against San Jose, and even if they don’t, unless something crazy happens, Chad’s going to get at least four points. It’s a safe play.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS too early to use wildcard?

— Kevin Alwell (@kevinalwell) March 10, 2015

I’d say if you are able to unable to field 11 players without using more than three transfers, you’re better off saving it. At the very least, wait a couple of weeks to get a couple more weeks’ worth of information. Having a wildcard in your back pocket for a rainy day is a huge advantage. I’ve had weeks where four of my players are all simultaneously and unexpectedly unavailable due to red cards and injuries.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS I transferred Rivero, Findley, White in for team. But I still kept Rochez on my team also. Was this smart of me?

— Sebastian Martinez (@MART12seb) March 10, 2015

I like the moves for Rivero, Findley, and White, but don’t count on Rochez to start. If you have a backup for him, you should be good.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS Who should I change and who to bring in ? Plz help 1st MPs fantasy player. http://t.co/gtrOj9nWs7

— Zaid Shaikh (@Tighrawala1) March 10, 2015

I’d trade out Birnbaum and BWP for Ethan White and Rivero. That’ll give you some cash to work with for next week, as well.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS Is Bunberry worth keeping?

— Alex Gumm (@Dynamo_Defender) March 10, 2015

I’d find someone else — it doesn’t sound good for Teal.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS Should I hold onto Amarikwa or Igboaninke going forward?

— Sean Ringrose (@SeanRingrose) March 10, 2015

I think Igboaninke will be the regular starter going forward, but until the Fire can show that they can score with consistency, I’m staying away from both of them for now.

@travi_the_rabbi @TotalMLS can you donate #MLSFantasy points? For a friend, of course

— Michael D Morales (@big_tx_morales) March 10, 2015

If I have any left over from my H2H matchup against Hal this weekend, I’ll see if I can let “your friend” borrow them on a short-term basis. Be warned, though — I charge pretty high interest rates.
