FANTASY MLS FOR XI: GOING FOR GOLD

The double-game week bonanza’s come and gone, and the majority of us that captained Giovinco reaped the rewards of his 16-point week. Over 30 MLS players scored in the double digits during the DGW. Were you able to take advantage of the extra matches?

Now we’re back to a normal week, and several MLS players are leaving for Gold Cup duties, so things will get trickier.

DGW: None
BYES: PHI, SKC

Let’s get down to business:

@EricWSoccer: feelings on the Dynamo shutting out Chicago this weekend?

As much as I love my Dynamo, they haven’t produced a clean sheet since Week 6. Until they can prove that they can do it, I wouldn’t bank on a shutout.

@MikeDatTiger: 1) Do you like Villareal as a switcheroo option w/ Polster & 2) Out of Piatti/Gio/Jorales, who would u drop to free up $?

1) I’m not sure I would field either of those guys right now. Polster is dirt cheap, but he can’t be counted on for any meaningful points. Villareal has a better chance of scoring, but Bruce Arena hasn’t given him enough minutes for me to feel comfortable using him. If you have no choice, then a switcharoo would be fine, but if you have a third option, you might look at that.

2) Out of those three, I’d drop Piatti. I’m not dropping Giovinco as long as he’s healthy, and Javi is due to score after his unfortunate red last week. Piatti’s still solid, and he’s playing against a questionable NYCFC defense, but he hasn’t had nearly as many breakout performances as the other two.

@Steven_MC19: I’m down 12pts already (), and need a captain to make it all up. Giovinco, Kaka, Frei, or Manneh?

@mkstnr: mainly just concerned with who I captain. Gio or Piatti?

Among those options, it’s a toss-up between Gio and Kaka, with Piatti a close third.

@SvwOMYTfc: did i make a mistake gambling on Keane and Meram rather than Finlay and Grella

It’s definitely not a terrible gamble. The entire LA Galaxy attacking corps are on fire right now, Keane included. Meram hasn’t produced nearly as consistently as Finlay, but he’s still a solid threat to get on the scoreboard. Columbus has a double-game week coming up, so I’d hold on to Meram for that, and try to bring in either Kamara or Finlay to cash in on the DGW.

Best of luck to everyone — unless you’re playing me this week!
