FANTASY MLS FOR XI: NEW YORK, NEW YORK

This week, NYCFC and the Philadelphia Union will play twice, starting with a head-to-head match-up at Yankee Stadium. NYCFC v PHI is the opening game for the week, so the transfer deadline is Thursday at 7:00 PM EASTERN / 4:00 PM PACIFIC. The question, though, is this: who are you going to bring in for this round?

Let’s see what questions you guys had for me this week:

‏@ian_pierpoint Should I trade Dempsey?

I wouldn’t burn a -4 point hit to do it. The Sounders are “confident” that he’ll be starting against Colorado, and if he does, the Oba/Deuce mind meld will be in play.

‏@DeviousMedia Will Omar be back for the game this weekend? He is not listed on international duty on fantasy site.

As far as I’m aware, Omar should have time to get back to LA in time for Saturday’s game. I’d put him at about a 75% chance to start.

‏@ssnyder467 is Aristeguieta (injured hand) likely to play?

Aristeguieta injured his quad a couple weeks back, and it sounds like he’s going to be a game-time decision. I think you may be asking about Le Toux — he injured his hand last week, and Jim Curtin said that the injury was gross, but wouldn’t prevent him from starting on Thursday. For both guys, I’m going to wait until one hour before the NYC/PHI match to see what the official Union lineup is before I make my transfers on Thursday.

‏@Vamos_DCU Atiba Harris. Picked him up for cheap high scoring defender and he didn’t start. Can’t find info, what’s his deal? Starter?

Everything I’ve heard from my FC Dallas contacts has suggested that Harris is going to lose out his starting spot to Je-Vaughn Watson.

‏@JamieUmbach Must-have players from the Union other than Aristeguita?

I’m not sure that there are any must-haves for Philly, but Columbus proved us wrong last week. The top three I’d consider, and that’s ONLY if they show up in Thursday’s starting lineup, are Aristiguieta, Le Toux, and Maidana.

‏@MLSPlease Thoughts on Edu on DGW with his move to back line.

I already wasn’t hot on Edu for this week, even before he moved back to the back line. It’s all of the risk and responsibility of being a defender without actually having a chance at a four-point clean sheet bonus OR being able to attack and score. He’s only averaged 2.3 points per game over six games. I’ll pass.

One last thought

Keep in mind that NYCFC has two home games this week, and home-field advantage has a definite impact in MLS. Best of luck, and hopefully we won’t see any more last-minute double-red cards!
