Another Clasico, Another Victory for the Galaxy

While the match might not have had the fire of previous Superclasico, the result stays the same. Chad Barrett had the opening goal in the 26th minute off of yet another assist by David Beckham. The Galaxy looked the better side throughout the first with plenty of chances to improve the score. Barrett also had a chance to net a brace but got a bit too cute with the keeper and went wide.

LA won the SuperClasico 1-0

Chivas redoubled their efforts and had a couple of chances either side of halftime to grab a goal to tie it up. Chivas’ nearly threw the game for a loop with a 65th minute volley from Ben Zemanski that hit the far post. However, Chivas never really look particularly dangerous during the game despite the increased 2nd half pressure and the Galaxy were able to ride out the remaining minutes with a 1-0 score line.

Short Corners

– Landon Donovan failed to score, which breaks his streak of games scored going back to the Portland game on April 23rd.
– The Galaxy made it through the game without a single card. The last time that’s happened in a Clasico is August  14, 2008.
– The Galaxy are now 4-0-2 over the last two years against the Goats, however the more impressive stat is that the Galaxy are 36-0-4 when they lead going into halftime since inception of the derby back in 2005.
– Donovan Ricketts recorded his 4th shutout Saturday night, which puts him behind Nick Rimando and Kevin Hartman who are the league leaders with 5 each.

I actually attended this game so I have a special video of the boys coming out to show love to the Supporters Groups in the corner….here ya go!
