Galaxy and Islanders End in Nil-Nil Draw

Well, Los Angeles Galaxy’s winning streak has come to an end. They played Puerto Rico Islanders in CONCACAF Champions League and that match ended in a scoreless draw. However, LA Galaxy is still on an unbeaten streak. In fact, the last time LA Galaxy lost was on August 5th against Seattle Sounders. Since then they have won or drawn all their matches.

For this match, LA Galaxy didn’t have all their starters. David Beckham, Sean Franklin, Omar Gonzalez, and Robbie Keane all stayed home in Los Angeles.  While LA did have Todd Dunivant and AJ DeLaGarza, neither of them played in the match.

What was it about Puerto Rico that made it so difficult for LA? Well, they had nothing to lose. They were already at the bottom of the table, so they weren’t afraid to take their chances. Puerto Rico was the slightly better team in this match, but were unable to finish their chances.

It wasn’t all bad for LA though. Brian Perk, LA’s “back up” keeper, had an incredible night. It was really thanks to him that LA stayed in the game. He made some great saves for LA and was one of the best players of the match. In fact, Perk made 7 saves!

LA has to be disappointed that they were only able to get a point from this match. They are still at the top of the group with 7 points, but they will have to play their best when they go to El Salvador for the last match of the group stage. With this match, Puerto Rico has been eliminated from CONCACAF Champions League play. Either LA Galaxy or Isidro Metapan will move on to the next round. It all depends on the last match.
