Galaxy Weekly – Stoppage Time

This is something a bit new that I’ll try to keep up on every Thursday where I’ll bring you more than just recaps and reviews. Obviously there’s more that happens with the team between games.  Let’s call it…Stoppage Time.

Check the New Style between the Pipes – Donovan Ricketts has been diagnosed with a fractured left ulna and will be out for 4-6 weeks. Saunders, of course, will be out for the next match against Seattle due to his red card offense in the San Jose game.  That leave 3rd string keeper Brian Perk the only full time keeper on staff. Perk, who gave up only one goal to LA Blues’ Cesar Rivera in the Third Round of the US Open Cup on Tuesday, will make his MLS debut against Seattle this weekend.

The Legend of Mike Magee ContinuesMike Magee again bails the Galaxy out of a hard spot with a one of two goals scored by LA vs the aforementioned Blues. The 81st minute winner off of a deflected Omar Gonzalez head was the game winner. The Galaxy will face the Seattle Sounders next in the 4th round of the USOC at Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle.

Good Things Come In 3rdsThe Galaxy are set to introduce their 3rd kit this Friday at a gala event at L.A Live. I heard there’s free vodka involved and this blogger wasn’t invited. If the 75 dollar price is too rich for your blood, you’ll see the 3rd kit on the field against the Sounders on the 4th.

The Silly Season commences – July 1st is about to rear its ugly head. Why ugly, you may ask? This marks the official FIFA international transfer window.  Even though North America’s official transfer window won’t start until July 15th , this won’t stop people from making rumors.  My favorite rumor so far? Brazilian striker Fernandao. coming to the Galaxy in a move that would make some sense for the Galaxy and rumor wise as he does play for Sao Paulo Players also linked with the Galaxy within the last couple of weeks include Freddy Adu (yes, seriously…being in LA for a Gold Cup Final makes you a Galaxy target), French striker Dijibril Cisse, and Honduran Carlos Costly. If the Galaxy are willing to throw away cash on aging strikers, I am available. Good upside at 25 and not a lot of wear and tear J

All Hail The Almost Conquering Hero – Landon Donovan should be returning to first team duties this week after a heart-breaking loss against Mexico. Donovan was good for one goal and one assist for the tourney and is now the USMNT all-time leading scorer. Hopefully, he can put some more threat into a Galaxy attack throughout the rest of the season.

That’s it for this week! Stay tuned for more tidbits next week.
