Saturday was another historic day for the Montreal Impact with the opening of their renovated Stade Saputo, taking on one of the best sides in all of MLS (Seattle) & handily beating them 4-1. I think that’s a dream come true for any IMFC supporter.
Things got started early, in the 18th minute, when Felipe scored to put the Impact up 1-0. Then in the second half, Montreal kept playing their attacking style and netted goals in the 51st (Mapp), 58th (Wenger) and 87th (Neagle) minutes. On three of those four goals, Patrice Bernier tailed the assist.
In the 56th minute, Sounders FC defender, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado was shown a straight red card for a tackle on Collen Warner. Six minutes later, Fredy Montero scored to put the away side on the board but it was far too little-too late.
The Impact put a stop to the Sounders road unbeaten streak (2-0-3 going into the match) with this win and did it with an exclamation point.
“We were very excited for the game and our first goal gave us some energy,” Bernier told the team’s official website. “A win like this is great in our new home and the atmosphere was fantastic. It was a special feeling. We can’t ask for anything more than scoring four goals at home in a win.”
MLS action will continue for Montreal, as the team takes on Chivas USA on Wednesday night. Kickoff is set for 10:30pm ET from the Home Depot Center in California.
