The Cosmos had a busy offseason with the arrival of Raul. They also completed the permanent transfer of Andres Flores. The midfielder, who spent last season with the Cosmos on loan, had a great season and the club bought his contract. Flores is the captain of the El Salvador national team and has a bright future on this club.
Last year the midfield was the weakest position so they have decided to add talented players to create some needed depth in the squad. The Cosmos have added midfielders Leo Fernandes, on loan from the Philadelphia Union, and Walter Restrepo from the San Antonio Scorpions, who faced off against the Cosmos last year during the Championship.
They also added Adam Moffat, a eight year MLS veteran to the squad. They have added great talent to the midfield but they still have a weak spot that supporters wish they could fix.
The Cosmos weakest position is the defense. The club has added Samuel Caceres on loan from Argentine club Nueva Chicago. Giovanni Savarese has said that the club ,”will add one more player per line”. Expect those signings to come soon. The defense is a weak spot on this team but hopefully they could stay 100% fit and not give up that many goals.
The attack is a strong part of this team. The highlight of the attack is the legend Raul. Raul is the key part of the attack but the finisher and his attacking partner could be Mads Stokkelien. Stokkelien led the club in goals last year. This is going to be Mads second year playing for the Cosmos and it is going to be interesting to see how he fits into this crowded attack. The other attacking players are Lucky, who last season played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies and their latest signing, 17 year old Haji Wright who joined the club to continue developing and get some first team minutes. Giovanni has said that this signing is a long term option. Also if Haji doesn’t get first team minutes he has the chance to play for Cosmos B, there reserve team.
This should be a big year for this team with the depth that they have in the midfield and the great options they have in the attack, they have a great chance to win the Championship. The defense however, could hold them back, because that is their weakest position.
