Earthquakes Offense Finds Spark Against Whitecaps

The moment Earthquakes fans were waiting for finally arrived: a goal by the boys in black and blue!

Earthquakes 2-2 Whitecaps

After a goal-scoring slump, Wondo was back. He produced his first of two goals in the 3rd minute from a skillful midfield assist by Dawkins, on loan from Tottenham. The Englishman has proven more than once that he is best as a play-making-attacking midfielder than a striker, yet coach Yallop again, placed him up top, a hallmark by a coach who has constantly placed players in weaker positions.

Unsurprisingly, Yallop applied the same starting lineup from the last match against Columbus, which had resulted in a tie. The fans appreciated the team’s goals but they were disappointed with another draw and a few annoying tidbits:

1. Lenhart, who missed two clear shots on goal and played so poorly, that fans continued to howl “get him off the pitch!”

2. Yallop’s brainless substitution of Khari Stephenson for “hasn’t-found-the-back-of-the-net-since-2008″ forward Scott Sealy. Lenhart should have been substituted with “hunger-to-impress” striker Ellis McLoughlin. Yallop didn’t even put McLoughlin as a sub despite McLoughlin’s scoring record in reserve matches, the Open Cup game vs Chicago (a goal and assist) and his fantastic goal against New England.

This season, San Jose hasn’t been able to play a single match where its defense, midfield and offense have collectively shined. Fans are impatiently waiting.
