EJ Bags Brace as Seattle Come From Behind to Beat Chivas USA

Seattle hosted Chivas in the return leg of the fixture that saw the Sounders record their biggest away win in their history, and after a tough fought 1-1 draw away in Dallas, Sounders were looking to get back to winning ways.

Eddie Johnson

Seattle made 2 changes to the side that saw out a 1-1 against FC Dallas, with Johansson on international duty, Scott stepped into the backline and Eddie Johnson came into the starting eleven for Rosales.

Plus it was a great day for Steve Zakuani who made his first start at home since his terrible injury.

And it was an inspired change with Eddie Johnson securing the three points for the Rave Green and taking them back to second in the west.

But Seattle didn’t have it easy as they started the game 1-0 down, after a great pass by new addition Joseph, he found LaBrocca inside the area who beat Gspurning from a tight angle to give Chivas the lead inside 10 minutes.

But it didn’t take Seattle long to equalize in front of the CenturyLink Field faithful, when a freekick delivered by Tiffert found the head of EJ at the far post who guided it home for his 12th goal of the season.

His header was driven into the ground, which gave it enough pace to take it into the top corner past the diving Kennedy.

Seattle then went on the rampage looking for another goal but were left frustrated as it remained 1-1 at HT.

Seattle carried on this momentum in the second half and had a massive shout for a penalty but was left wondering as referee Kevin Stott astonishingly waved all the appeals away.

The Sounders then pilled on the pressure with Zakuani and Montero both missing chances, but not as simple as Evans who secured “Miss of the Week” as a open goal went begging as his shot cannoned off the post.

But all was forgotten when Eddie Johnson scored his second of the day, 2 minutes from time. After a great run down the line by Montero, his cross fell into the path of EJ who’s header was thundered at Kennedy who could only parry it away to the top corner and give Johnson his 13th goal of the campaign.

Next up for Seattle is a big match away at Portland, where local rivalry, pride and passion is all on the line in the Cascadia Cup Derby.
