Seattle headed to Carson, California after a 2-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps, and were looking to make it four wins out of five. Seattle made one change to the team that won in the Cascadia Cup, with Alex Caskey making way for Fredy Montero to partner Eddie Johnson up top.
And it was Seattle who opened the scoring with 10 minutes on the clock, as Evans was played through by Montero who slipped the ball past the former Sounder Riley, and gave Evans the easiest finish, by side footing it past Dan Kennedy.
But within 5 minutes Chivas USA should have been tied but Townsend’s header could not find the back of the net, and they were made to pay when Montero made it 2-0 and his first of the night.
Montero ran the line of the defense and after a deadly ball through by Rosales, he found a tight angle and slotted into the far corner.
Chivas nearly found themselves on the score sheet, but were thwarted by a great save by Gspurning. And yet again it was to the Goats downfall when Montero bagged his 2nd of the night with a classy run and finish to make it 3-0.
Montero advanced with the ball after nearly falling over and laid it off to Rosales, and was left to run freely behind the Chivas USA back line and Rosales found him with a solid pass, which Montero dispatched easily with a classy chip over Kennedy.
The Sounders couldn’t keep a clean sheet though with Chivas USA getting back on the scoreboard with a PK kick, tucked away by Juan Agudelo to make it 3-1 at the half.
The second half looked like Seattle was on the brink of throwing away a three-goal lead, when the Sounders defense let Bolaños advance without any challenge and he fired in a wicked strike past the diving Gspurning, from the edge of the 18 to make it 3-2 with half an hour left.
But that was the last goal that Chivas would score and another three were to hit the back of the net, the next completing the hat trick for Montero, 3 minutes after conceding their second.
Montero, again, was allowed to run the line and get on the end of a Rosales pass, inside the area, and after a great drag back and touch, he fired in for his first hat trick of his Seattle career, making it 4-2.
Goal number 5 came from some great passing from the men in Rave Green with the final ball from Tiffert finding substitute Sammy Ochoa in the box and his glancing header was too much for Kennedy.
And to make things worse the Sounders bagged another courtesy of Chivas defender Jazic, who wanted to get in on the action as well and diverted the ball into the back of his own net, whilst trying to prevent Mario Martinez from scoring. Luckily for Chivas the game ended without any more goals and Seattle went home with the three points and a 6-2 victory.
The Sounders now take their impressive form to Texas, where they face FC Dallas, before returning home to CenturyLink Field to take on Chivas USA again, who will be hoping not to see the rout again.
