Sources: Sounders in Trade Talks to Clear Cap Space

Seattle and Chicago look to be in talks to make a two-for-one swap. Sources report that the Sounders will be sending center backs Jhon-Kennedy Hurtado and Patrick Ianni to the Fire, in exchange for right back Jalil Anibaba.

The rumored deal would clear cap space for the Sounders, which would come in handy should reports prove true that the club is pursuing returning winger Marco Pappa. Hurtado and Ianna were on the books last season for $190 and $150K, respectively.

Should the teams make the swap, it’s likely that Anibaba would return to his former center back role, as the only thing that will cause DeAndre Yedlin to cede that spot is a move to Europe.

For the Sounders, a back line of Leo Gonzalez, Chad Marshall and Yedlin could be completed in a number of ways, with Anibaba stepping right in to start, perhaps with depth provided by the likes of Eriq Zavaleta, Zach Scott and Djimi Traore.
