Another Day Another Loss for Sporting KC

I try to be positive in my reviews of Sporting KC; however, that is near impossible after this latest loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday. It was a horrible 4-1 loss that makes you wonder how long manager Peter Vermes can expect to keep his job.

Roger Espinoza and Landon Donovan

Sporting extended their losing streak to 4 in a row and now only have 1 point in their last 6 total matches. It started to seem that with each week they would find a different way to lose. This weekend was the first time Sporting have lost this year by more than one goal, and the first time fans really seemed to get down on the team.

Things were going against Sporting early on as Los Angeles was able to control possession and the run of play for the better part of the first half when Sporting were able to strike first on, what turned out to be, an own goal from Omar Gonzalez. This joy didn’t last long as David Beckham was able to draw a penalty only 5 minutes later. Landon Donovan was able to beat backup goalkeeper Eric Kronberg and followed it up with an early second half goal that put LA up 2 goals to 1. Juan Pablo Angel would come off of the substitute’s bench and add a third LA goal. David Beckham would finish the scoring as he scored on a late free kick from just outside the box on a goal that would probably make most highlight shows.

This run of form should be coming to an end (hopefully). Omar Bravo is expected to come back from injury next week versus Seattle. Also, there are only 3 more road matches until they open Livestrong Sporting Park on June 9th versus the Chicago Fire on ESPN2. Before that match, Sporting will take on the Seattle Sounders in another must win matchup for the club, whose playoff chances are getting smaller by the week.

Safe to say that June 9th can’t come soon enough.
