Sporting Climb Out of Eastern Conf. Cellar With Win Over Whitecaps

Sporting look as though they have started to turn around the season as they get their 3rd win in 4 MLS matches and improve season long 7 straight unbeaten.  It’s no coincidence that this run of form began with Sporting’s coming home after a lengthy road trip.

On Saturday, Sporting showed their heart as they came back from an early goal deficit to win 2-1 on goals by Omar Bravo and Julio Cesar. The win helped Sporting move up into 6th place in eastern conference, only 9 points short of Philadelphia Union for first. With 11 out of their next 13 played at home, Sporting now have a very good chance of sneaking into the playoffs. Colorado proved last year that all a team needs is to make the playoffs in order to have a chance to become champion.

One of the most encouraging things for Sporting is the depth that they have shown despite losing players to injuries, suspensions, and international duty.  Graham Zusi and Chance Myers are two players who have stepped up and really asserted themselves as starters even when everybody is available. Also, players have stepped up when certain players are out of form (C.J. Sapong for Teal Bunbury and Kei Kamara).
