Enter the Burrito: RSL Welcomes New Designated Player Juan Manuel Martinez

Juan Manuel “Burrito” Martinez arrived in Salt Lake City this morning, welcomed by a crowd of Real Salt Lake fans anxious for the culmination of what had come to be known as “#BurritoWatch” on Twitter.  The Argentine striker is unlikely to make his debut Saturday against the Seattle Sounders, but could be available for RSL’s visit to FC Dallas on August 29.

Martinez comes to Real Salt Lake from Boca Juniors of the Argentine Primera Division.  He is the second player to come to MLS directly from Boca Juniors, following Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who joined the Columbus Crew in 2007 before being named MLS Most Valuable Player in 2008.  Martinez was named Argentine Footballer of the Year in 2010, an honor he shared with Lionel Messi.
